Introduction
Because the sound is not the best with the original speakers, I've decided to insert a new
Combo-system in replacement of the original one. I've chosen a 16cm (6,5")
Combo-system (Nova Comb 6.1; 80W RMS) from Intertechnik here in Germany, because of the price (~150,- Euro) and
the tweeter fits nearly without changes to the original factory hole, so that
I can reinstall the stock speakers if I sell the car (in a far far future), but you can use nearly
any 6.5" system.
Installation
|
| The first step is to remove the
door panels, (this was described earlier in this magazine) then remove the speakers with 4 screws |

| The next step was the most complicated part. The woofer needs 70mm in the door and there are only 55mm, additionally there is 35mm room to the door panel, which has to be
filled for better acoustic. So I've taken a 22mm thick MDF panel and created 2 rings according to the shape of the original speakers.
For the screws AND later to fit in the door-panel you have to make the panel at the
screws only 8-9mm thick. |

| On the next picture you see the backside of the
door panel. The tweeter is already in place. I've fixed the cables with a
hot glue gun - aka "Heissklebepistole".
With the same hot-glue method I've mounted the Cross-Over directly
underneath a hole of the armrest. |

| Here you can see the switch to adjust the tweeter level through the armrest from outside the door. |

| I've installed the input for the Cross-Over directly at the cables for the original speaker after
I've cut the connectors. And finally here are the pictures after reinstalling the
door-panels of the tweeter. |
