Japanese MR-S Gas Door Emblem

Courtesy of Akira on Spyderchat, I received my new gas door emblem and shot a few pictures of installing it on the car.  I have the directions in Japanese if anyone wants me to scan them, let me know.

Here's the emblem laying on its face to show the stick on tape on the back of the emblem, the emblem is made of aluminum I think.

Here's the emblem face up and you can see the Japanese installation directions, quick extensive for basically "peel and stick".

Here it is on the car, this picture probably shows Solar Yellow in as close to the actual car color as I have seen in any picture, even my other pictures.

Here it is again on the car.

Good rear angle picture, notice how the yellow shade seems to get lighter.

From the front this time, again the yellow looks lighter than above.

No shot would be complete without showing the gas door in the open position.  The piece is well made as a nice piece of trim, but a little pricey.

Taken at lunch, found a Porsche Boxster, BMW M Roadster parked next to each other, thought I'd add a bit of "color" to the shot. (No offense Nedb)!

MR/S Gas Door Version 2

Below are pictures of the second install of the MR/S Gas Door after the first one was stolen.  In an attempt to prevent further thefts, additional measures were taken to secure the gas door.  Also below are pictures of the installation of the MR/S Aluminum Door Sills.

The gas door on the left, the door sills on the right.  They look like skis.

DSC00003.JPG (106266 bytes)

First thing, secure the gas door emblem so that it cannot just be peeled off.  This requires a drill.

DSC00004.JPG (89866 bytes)

Drill from the back side of the emblem so as to center the drill holes in the top and bottom locations.

DSC00005.JPG (86258 bytes)

As you can see the top and bottom locations have been drilled with small pilot holes.

DSC00006.JPG (104410 bytes)

I used a 5/32 drill bit, although I think an 11/64 would have been better, I just didn't have one.  The bolts are stainless steel #8-32 by 3/4", although 1/2" would have been sufficient

DSC00007.JPG (97966 bytes)

Here the two holes have been drilled and the bolts threaded through.  The piece is solid aluminum.

DSC00008.JPG (97208 bytes)

Here is a close up with the screws threaded all the way in, the package the screws came in is at the left.  They came from Home Depot.

DSC00009.JPG (91130 bytes)

The back side of the emblem. The screws look angled out but that is just because of the way the piece is sitting on the box.

DSC00010.JPG (72319 bytes)

First order of business, peel off the double stick tape film and stick the emblem to the gas door.

DSC00011.JPG (79246 bytes)

I then drilled two holes using the holes in the emblem as pilot holes.  The door on the car is steel, I originally thought it was plastic.

DSC00012.JPG (107760 bytes)

Here is the door before the bolts were threaded through.

DSC00017.JPG (92001 bytes)

I placed a little silicone sealant on the threads at the spot where the hole was drilled to keep water out and to keep the door from rusting.  Note I also used the nylon threaded nuts.

DSC00018.JPG (70544 bytes)

Tighten up the nuts, but be careful not to over tighten and warp the emblem.

Completed emblem install!  Of course it could still be stolen by someone with enough time, but this should discourage those who would just try to peel off the emblem.
